ARRHYTHMIA EVALUATION, MANAGEMENT AND ABLATION

Arrhythmias often present as the feeling of an unusual heart beat - palpitations and can be very unpleasant. Some patients are afraid to exercise/dance and participate in other usual activities for fear of inducing their symptoms.
Most arrhythmias are curable with low risk procedures or are easily managed with tablets and a change in lifestyle.
If you have a history of blackouts, and abnormal ECG or a family history of sudden death then assessment with a cardiologist is important
Recording the ECG during the palpitations is very helpful for planning the most effective treatment strategy.  Please ask your doctor or hospital for a copy of your ECG if you are having palpitations at the time.  Keeping these and showing them to myself or your cardiologist is always a good start.  If you have an Apple 4 series watch please learn how to record your ECG and use it to try and record your palpitations while you are waiting for review.
Undocumented palpitations are often diagnosable based on your description of the palpitations and with a simple test in hospital called an EPS.  Some arrhythmias need more prolonged monitoring of your ECG to document.  Your doctor may talk to you about a LINQ device - a tiny electronic stick that is placed under the skin or the use of the AliveCOR watch and app to record these
Treatment of palpitations/arrhythmias is an area of cardiology that I sub-specialise in.
Please contact me today to schedule an appointment to discuss your problem and the options of management.
